Over 600 animals—including horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, and even a turkey—have found their forever home at Villa Chardonnay. These animals have no other place to go. Villa Chardonnay is one of the largest animal sanctuaries in the U.S., offering a safe haven for the discarded, the sick, and the formerly abused. Here, they are not only cared for but are also cherished and loved, allowing them to live out their lives in peace, surrounded by compassion.

Why Donate to Villa Chardonnay?

As one of the largest equine and animal sanctuaries in the United States, and the largest in Southern California, Villa Chardonnay is home to over 600 animals who rely on us daily for skilled, compassionate care. Unlike rescues that adopt animals out, we provide a permanent home for those who are often overlooked—ensuring they receive the love and medical care they need until their final breath.

Since our founding in 2003, Villa Chardonnay has saved nearly 1,000 lives, offering refuge to animals with “special needs.” Many of our horses, with an average age of 28, suffer from serious health conditions such as Cushing’s disease, cancer, blindness, and neurological disorders. These senior horses are no longer suitable for riding, and without our care, they would have nowhere to go. Many of our dogs come from the brutal Asian dog meat markets, often arriving with severe disabilities or illnesses that require extensive care.

The sad truth is that there are very few sanctuaries in the U.S. that can take in senior and disabled animals. Many organizations, including large foundations like the ASPCA, primarily provide funding for rescues that adopt out animals. Unfortunately, animals with special needs are often passed over because they are not candidates for adoption. Villa Chardonnay steps in to give these animals the love and care they deserve when no one else will.

We also work closely with other equine rescues, providing a loving home to their elderly and disabled horses when they can no longer be cared for elsewhere. In many ways, we are the assisted living and nursing home for animals, offering them a chance to live their golden years with dignity.
